WOOOOWWWW what an awesome week. Let me give you the run down on what the first week was like in Malaysia.
Monday – We had our first day of ministry with the kids! We wanted to get to know all of them and make our first moments with them super fun, so we spent the first day playing games. Mainly my friends Liv and Caleb ran them and the kids were having the best time. At the end of the school day at noon, each of us were assigned one kid to teach for the next month.
Tuesday – We evaluated all of our kids to see where they are in terms of English and Math. Since the age range/experience level is so wide, each of my squad mates has to teach their kid in unique ways. School is from 9am-12am, and the last hour we played some more games. In the evening, my team had the opportunity to teach at a night school wit some other kids who attend our church. There I was able to build some friendships with sweet girls while we taught and played games.
Wednesday – It was the last day of school for the week and today teaching was much more involved. My little boy is very smart but shy, so we got his brothers and him involved in a game with flash cards and reading/spelling. It was SO sweet. When the night came, we had house church where we got to all break off and visit different houses to do a service. My friends Carter, Grace, Sophia, and I got to experience the Holy Spirit moving, then a healing! The sweet woman who welcomed us into her home had been experiencing shoulder pain, so we prayed over her and quickly after, and she couldn’t feel the pain anymore. SOOOO COOL!
Thursday – I ate some bomb food today. During lunch, a few of my squad mates, our ministry host Pastor Thomas (aka PT), and I went out to eat, and later I ate the most fire ice cream ever. In the evening we were offered the opportunity to do a Bible skit during a Diwali festival. We all had so much fun even though it wasn’t quite what we expected.
Friday – We had church again and it was liiiiittttt. Four people from my squad: Liv, Reagan, Ella, and Jackson gave either their testimony or a little message to the congregation. I’m seriously so proud of them to share in front of all of everyone.
If you’ve known me for a long time you would know that I’ve never wanted to be a teacher. I always said “I would NOT have the patience.” It’s funny that the first ministry I’m in is being a teacher, and I truly think that’s a blessing. The Lord is growing me in a looottt of different ways right now and it’s lit but wow. I’m gonna know myself very well by the end of this trip that’s for sure.
