Week #2 of ministry in Guate done!

We started doing “Deep Dives” with Hannah last week, so we continued with those on Tuesday and Friday. We basically go through one chapter of the Bible really slow, and get to dissect every word. Luke 10 is the chapter we’re going through, and it’s just crazy how dense the Bible truly is. I’ve really enjoyed these. Later that day we went to help at Reindom in Santa Marta, but it looked a little different today. There was a women’s cooking class this morning, so we each did different things during that time. I was taking pictures of the women upstairs, Jaylynn and Kat cleaned and painted the outhouse, and Lexi and Naty began organizing two rooms downstairs. Our goal today was to move the kitchen from upstairs downstairs. After the women finished cooking, we served the kids like normal, cleaned the dishes, then finished moving the kitchen. At the very end, we moved the pila (sink) that was stuck in the ground to a spot where we could actually use it. That thing was HEAVY. Afterwards, we recouped with a three liter bottle of coke and some snacks. My squad did a little processing activity that night to begin getting in the mindset of going home. 🥲

Wednesday we did the Kingdom Table again! I went out with our host Gerry to collect people, then went back where I attended the women’s service and helped serve lunch. We did dishes, then finished with some more crocheting. After the Kingdom Table and a little nap at the Reindom base, we went to the village for Bible study. We were talking about the statue of Nebakanezer today, so we did a game, Loyda taught about it, then we made a craft.

Thursday we had activation. Hannah talked about speaking life in our squad, and wow it was convicting. After her talk, we had some time to go around and exhort each other. At our ream debrief we actually got to work some things out, which was so fruitful. That afternoon we didn’t do ATL because of the heaviness from the talk, but I went out with my team to a coffee shop called Melendrez, where we got to hangout together. That night my team did some vision casting for going home.
Friday, we began our ministry day in the prayer room at the Reindom base, where we interceded for churches around the world. We then went to Santa Marta for a normal day of cooking and serving food for the kids, then attending classes. I helped cook today, then I helped at soccer with Ava, Jaylynn, and Naty. Today was definitely harder in terms of maintaining patience with the kids. It seemed like they were all in a strange mood today, which downplayed our moods too. In the end, it was all good though!

Saturday morning I went to Chimal with my team where we did check ins at a coffee shop, then I went with Jaylynn and Liv to the grocery store/mall. The mall had Panda Express, so I COPPED that. In the afternoon, my team went to a small thing for ministry. We helped bag some care packages, hung out with kids for about an hour, then handed out the bags and headed out. Caleb and Emery cooked both of our teams steak street tacos which were absolutely amazing.

Afternoon Saturday ministry

Sunday we went back to Shoreline church in Antigua. The chicken bus on the way over there was INSANE. There was no room at all, and we were all squished, standing up in the aisle. We finally got to Antigua, but our bus kept stopping, so we just got out to walk to church. Good thing we did, because there were about 100 buses lined up waiting to get to the station. After church, Caleb, Brandon, Emery, Naty, Jackson, Lexi, and I went to Hectors for lunch. Jackson and I went with Lexi to the grocery store, then took the bus home, which praise God was SO much better than the one on the way over.

It was another good week of ministry, even though there were a few moments where I needed an extra dose of God’s patience. There’s been a bit of sickness going around my squad which is also not fun, but God continues to cover us and reveal Himself in small ways. I started this new thing where a few days this week, I wake up at 4:00am to spend time with God. That has actually been so fruitful and I’m hoping to continue to do that throughout Guatemala. Taking about two hours in the morning just with Him is incredibly filling.
On to a new week 🙂
